Attendance and Truancy Policy
This is the parent and guardian summary of the Attendance and Truancy Policy.
Why attendance matters
Regular attendance builds good habits, confidence and steady academic progress. Students who attend consistently are more successful and better prepared for future study and work.
School hours
| Section | Hours |
|---|---|
| Primary | 8:30 am – 2:00 pm |
| Secondary | 8:00 am – 3:00 pm |
Boarders must also attend all daily dorm routines (morning roll, meals, prep, evening roll).
Reporting absences
- Parents must notify the school by phone, note or email when a child is absent.
- A written note or medical certificate is required for absences longer than 3 days.
- If a student has two consecutive unexplained absences, the school will contact parents directly.
Late arrivals
Students who arrive late must sign in at:
| Students | Sign in at |
|---|---|
| Primary | School Office |
| Secondary | Administration Office |
| Boarders | Dorm Supervisor |
Repeated lateness may lead to parent meetings or disciplinary follow-up.
Truancy (unauthorised absence)
Truancy includes missing classes or leaving school or dorm grounds without permission. Consequences are progressive:
- Verbal warning.
- Written warning and parent meeting.
- Suspension and probation.
Persistent truancy may result in an enrolment review.
How parents can help
- Encourage daily attendance and punctuality.
- Avoid scheduling trips or events during term time.
- Communicate promptly with the school if your child is unwell or facing difficulties.
- Reinforce responsibility and commitment to learning.
